Crowns

A crown, sometime referred to as a cap, is a strong protective structure that is necessary when a tooth fractures or a large filling breaks down or too much tooth structure is lost because of decay. There are several types of crowns ranging from stainless steel for youngsters, to porcelain, porcelain fused to metal and high noble gold crowns. Most of the time porcelain crowns or porcelain fused to metal crowns are preferred because of their strength and cosmetic effect. Porcelain crowns are sculptured individually by ceramic artists in our lab to perfectly fit the model made from the impression the doctor took after preparation. You and the dentist will decide what is the best way to restore your tooth.

It generally takes 2 visits for this procedure. The first visit is when proper preparation is completed and the impression is taken. A temporary protective crown is made chairside so you will not be going without a tooth in that area. The second visit simply requires seating and delivering the crown. The bite is checked and all margins are closed before the crown is finally cemented. These procedures are completed under anesthesia and there is no discomfort. Porcelain crowns today are state of the art and match the other teeth so it appears you have a natural tooth.
