Better-Looking Teeth

While you take care of your teeth, you may not have been born with a perfect smile. Characteristics such as the shape, straightness, or color of your teeth may be inhibiting you from showing your smile. One of the most popular techniques we offer at Alabama Family Dentist for improving the smile you were born with into a smile you love is tooth bonding.

Composite Bonding

Composite bonding is an excellent method for correcting broken, misshapen, stained, or otherwise unsightly teeth using tooth-colored composite resin with a bonding agent. At Alabama Family Dentist we can manipulate the procedure to mimic the color, details, and translucency of your adjacent teeth and leave you with a beautifully-sculpted, natural-looking restoration. Cosmetic dental bonding composites are materials with a paste-like consistency made of acrylic resins and inorganic fillers, which also contain photo-initiators. They contain various pigments which we match to your tooth color, and they come in varying degrees of translucency and can accept a high degree of polishing.

The procedure is usually completed in one visit. Depending on the condition of the teeth, the first step is to remove the decayed or non-sustainable portion of the tooth, which is performed under anesthesia. The tooth is then prepared by lightly roughening the area to be repaired by etching the surface with a gel or liquid, followed by application of a bonding agent consisting of primers and resins to the surface area. This will allow the resin bonding composite to be placed on the prepared tooth, sometimes in several layers in order to duplicate the depth of color that occurs in a natural tooth and shaped to achieve the effect desired. The composite is hardened using a high-intensity light, then trimmed and polished to a beautiful shine.

The bonding procedure is simple and only requires a little preparation by the dentist.  There is little to no enamel reduction. The dentists at Alabama Family Dentistry use the latest techniques in tooth repair.  When the bonding is complete, the new surface is strong and durable and the results will last a long time.

At your consultation, your Alabama Family Dentist will give you complete information about tooth bonding and other procedures such as tooth whitening or veneers which could improve your smile and improve your confidence.

It is important to be aware that although the procedure lasts several years, it is more susceptible to staining or chipping than other forms of restoration. As with all dental procedures, daily flossing and brushing will maintain the health of your teeth and gums and keep your smile beautiful.
